Were Middle-Age bronze weapons — soft and hard to repair — real­ly for bat­tle, or were they just for show? In a demon­stra­tion of ded­i­ca­tion, one arche­ol­o­gist had weapons made, then got “mem­bers of a local club devot­ed to recre­at­ing and teach­ing medieval European com­bat styles”* to fight with them.

[T]he team was able to show that the pat­terns of wear did indeed match up with real com­bat tech­niques – indi­cat­ing these weapons weren’t just cer­e­mo­ni­al items.
