You might think, “Don’t we already plant in rows?” Yes, but with­in the rows the space between seeds is ran­dom. Fixing that to make an even grid is bet­ter for everyone.

“People didn’t believe that a sow­ing pat­tern could have such a sig­nif­i­cant impact for crops. But we were able to con­clude that it does.”
