What? Plastic wrap? Seriously? Yeah, seriously.
When it comes to aluminum foil, plastic wrap, and their ilk, we buy the store brand. Neither Saran Wrap nor Glad Wrap was better that Kroger’s stuff — and really, they were all so-so at best.
Then The Wife comes home with this Glad Press ‘n Seal (sic — should have apostrophes before and after the “n”).
I see not only brand-name stuff when brand doesn’t matter*, but some kind of new-fangled premium brand-name stuff. Argh. I hate gimmicky stuff, and that’s clearly what this was.
But The Wife assured me that she got it on sale and to stop being such a whiner.
So I tried this stuff. And lemme tell you, even at full price it’s worth every cent. I was pretty darned surprised. It really sticks, and sticks well — like, bowl-upside-down well.
One side is coated with this Velcro-like texture. Having a gadzillion little bumps means a lot more surface area for sticking, and pressing the Press ‘n’ Seal firmly is pretty close to gluing. (Glad sez it’s similar to what sticks those labels onto fruit.)
Not only does it seal bowls tightly, but it sticks to itself even better. So you can wrap something just in Press ‘n’ Seal and it’s about as good as one of those food-sealer systems. (There’s a freezer version of it, too — thicker and designed for wrapping meat for the long haul.)
Anyway, there aren’t a lot of mundane, kitcheny products that really stand out, but this stuff sure is one.
Now I can’t wait till there’s a Kroger-brand version.
*There are plenty of things where brand matters: ketchup, coffee (I’m told), frozen food, and more. But there are plenty where it doesn’t matter.
