gnomic says:

Now, now. We call them “elected officials” or “talk show hosts” and GOP “leaders” these days.

MM says:

I think the first replier ought to try being more civil to Republicans. Just being one does NOT make a person retarded.

Gnomic says:

@MM: I specifically called 2 groups retarded:
elected officials (of both parties could be implied)
talk show hosts
GOP “leaders”

I did not call Republicans in general retarded, although, now that you mention it, I fail to understand why people continue to support a party that lies to the American people, commits criminal acts, commits war crimes, commits hypocritical acts of immorality, and fails to even put forth a budget, health plan, or any other bit or rational legislation.

I’m not suggesting anyone go vote for the other party, but really, what does it take before you quit supporting or affiliating with this group?

I wouldn’t call Republicans retarded, because that is a physical inability to think. That word doesn’t fit. The word I would pick would imply willing self-deluded and an unearned cult-like devotion to an immoral and unethical group that acts opposite what it claims to value.

The closest I’ve come to accurately describing the party is un-American. But I don’t think that is the correct label for individuals, who are uncritically consuming propaganda from Fox News and don’t seem to find it odd that people who believe government is the problem should be elected to government where they then strive to make government the problem.

As for civility, you are the one inferring that I am not civil. I defy you to find a single uncivil statement. I am uncharitable in my criticism, I am frank in my dislike for a party that deserves to be run out of office with pitchforks, but I’m not uncivil in my statements.

If anything, I regret that I may have insulted retarded people who, through no fault of their own and with many challenges, seek to overcome their disabilities. With the possible exception of G. W. Bush, who, like Chance Gardner in Being There, seemed to relish his mental disabilities and be blissfully unaware of his criminality.
