I just bought a Eee PC 900HA XP — shiny, black, tiny, awesome — and $400 with a $50 extended warranty and shipping.

Oddly, I bought it from NewEgg 1 day before your post.

$750 for a case and screen? That’s a bit much. Considering the $3-400 you need to spend to make the unit complete. If not more. And working on laptops sucks. LOL

Decent laptops can be had for $5-600 complete now-a-days. I don’t see this taking off.

Dave, you’d be surprised. One thing you’re maybe not considering is that this is an upgradeable machine. Most laptops, you can upgrade the memory, if you’re lucky. This one allows for processor upgrades…and probably video card upgrades as well.

This is also not intended for your average Best Buy shopper, either. This is intended for someone who wants more customization than is currently (generally) available for laptop purchases.

Randy says:

If the video card is upgradeable, that’s really not a bad starting point for a DIY laptop. I’ve wanted to build a customized laptop for a while, but the high price of just the basics has kept me away so far. Prices are getting better, though, and I’ll probably build my own gaming laptop at some time not too far into the future.

Must be a Mac! For that price and not processor or guts, it couldn’t be anything else.
