This is Tommy “Chip” Holohan. His sister is married to my brother.
Tommy was a firefighter at Engine Company 6, in lower Manhattan. It was one of the first responders on 9/11. Tommy was one of four from the company who didn’t make it out.
No long eulogies. Plenty of those around. Let me say this, though: Never forget that while we are all running out, people like Tommy are running in.
When my son asks me (as he has), “Are there any real superheroes?” I can answer, “Yes.”

David Lee Frater says:
If this in indeed and honest and accurate statement, then this is an unfortunate, and very sad loss to not only the family of Tommy Holohan, but to his community and nation as well.
However, I am a little confused about the title of this piece, “Still no police, they must be waiting by my car for the ambush”.
The article, or blog, is a eulogy to a fallen American Hero, a man who gave his life in the service of his fellow citizens. The article, or blog, does not mention the police at all, or what connection the police department has to this unfortunate loss. I do not understand, the title of the articles link to the content of the article at all. This confuses me more than a little bit. Is the author implying some sort of mis-conduct, or mis-behavior by the police department? And if so, why did they not elaborate on that at all?
On this day, September the 11th, 2008, I am sure that we will see, all over the wires and blogs, worldwide, many references to this unfortunate tragedy in American History, and many eulogies to those that were lost.
But, it has been seven years now, and the Bush Administration is no closer today, than they were seven years ago, in finding, or bringing to justice the party or parties who actually were responsible for that attack upon the citizens of this nation. The Bush Administration was able to convince, the American Public, for a period of time, that, Saddam Hussien, and his regime, we linked to this attack. It was this claim, by the Bush Administration, that, led congress to approve military action against that nation.
But we know more today, than we knew seven years ago. Sadam Hussien was a dictator, a brutal, blood thirsty dictator. He demonstrated to the world his expansionist desires to occupy and control several neighboring Middle Eastern, oil producing countries, this is a historical fact. He was not a nice man, his regime was a military dictatorship, and a danger to the stability of the Middle East. We, the people of Iraq, and the world, probably are much better off without this madman running loose with a substantial military force in that part of the world. This is also, probably very true as well.
However, did Sadam Hussien actually have any direct connection on the September 11th attack upon the World Trade Center of New York? Did Saddam Hussien actually have nuclear facilities under construction, or nearly completed, for the intention of refining high grade, weapons grade nuclear materials for the use of building and deploying nuclear weapons? Did Saddam Hussien actually have facilities dedicated to the mass production of “weapons of mass destruction”?
The answer to ALL of these questions, is clearly, NO.
Saddam Hussien was NOT RESPONSIBLE for the September 11th attack, Saddam Hussien had no direct connections to the alleged perpetrators of this attack, he may have had some casual associations with some of them, but no DIRECT association with them at all.
This begs another series of questions….
If not Saddam Hussien, then who? Who did attack the World Trade Center? Here we are seven years latter, having spent Billions upon Billions of dollars on a war against the wrong country, having lost thousands of more fine Americans in that war, and we are no closer to finding the guilty today, than we were seven years ago.
And the American occupation of Iraq continues… WHY ???
If president Bush, were the President of a large corporation, and had made a judgment error as severe as this, he would have been tossed out on his butt five years ago. Why is this man still allowed to control such vast amounts of American resources, when clearly, he is incapable of making informed and effective executive decisions at all?
It is time for this nation, to ask these questions of this current American Administration. It is time to DEMAND clear, accurate, informed answers.
Sincerely,
David Lee Frater
