Now AOL’s Stealing Ad Campaigns

Published 12/19/04

Yikes. I was watching the Giants game yesterday (they beat the Steelers, but couldn’t beat the refs), and saw a new AOL TV commercial.

This one had people saying things like “I want to give a virus to all my coworkers” and various other “I want to [insert bad thing here]” comments. (Then kicker at the end was that AOL provides free anti-virus software for its users.)

But haven’t we seen this ad campaign before? Why yes! It’s just about identical to the ads Monster.com used to run — remember? “When I grow up I want to claw my way to middle management” and “I want to file all day.”

So the best AOL could do was steal an idea from Monster.com? Sheesh.

Not only does AOL steal ad campaigns, but they also steal money from bank accounts of people who have never even had an AOL account. I know this sounds like I have a bill I don’t want to pay, but that is not so. We always pay ourbills and always pay on time. This is not heresay…this is first hand…my daughter is the one from whom they are stealing. After billing her for $120+ (for service at a time when she didn’t even have a computer) and our having to write and write again to tell them we do not and never have had an acct with them, and after their 800 number gorillas telling us we were lying (their words, not ours), we finally wrote a letter telling them if they contacted us again we would press charges in court, they stopped. Now, in December and again in January, they are taking money from her debit account…$23+ each montH…and the bank is having to cancel the charges. Now she will get a new account number also. Question: WHERE DID THEY GET HER ACCOUNT NUMBER EXCEPT BY FRAUDULENT MEANS?????? WE SURELY DID NOT GIVE IT TO THEM. THIS, FRIENDS, IS STEALING…NO OTHER WORD FOR IT. Anyone else out there HAVING THIS HAPPEN? Any solutions?

AOL does the same thing to my wife. Is there a class action lawsuit that is going against them? If not would you help me start one?
